Successful Celebration for its 159 years

On April 20, in Lisbon, Casa Havaneza , the most emblematic cigar store in Portugal and one of the oldest in the world, deserved a successful celebration for its 159th anniversary. 

The first Casa Havaneza store was founded in 1864, by the banker Henry Burnay, and became a point of reference for Premium tobacco from Portugal and a meeting place for Habano aficionados and intellectuals, including Eça de Queiroz, Ramalho Ortigão and Fernando Pessoa. Casa Havaneza, since 2018, was considered a historical and National Heritage store.

On the occasion of this celebration, Empor, SA, Exclusive Habanos Distributor for Portugal, organized a dinner at the “Porto Santa María” Restaurant, on Guincho Beach, very close to the city of Lisbon, which was attended by more than 120 guests. It was attended by the Hon. Ambassador of Cuba in Portugal, Mrs. Yusmari Díaz and Mr. Pedro Rocha, General Director of Empor, SA who thanked those present for their predilection for Cuban tobacco.

The event began with a welcome cocktail where attendees had the opportunity to taste two cigars, Quai D’Orsay No. 50 and El Rey del Mundo Templarios, Regional Edition for Portugal; paired with cocktails made with Sanderman Port wines and Diplomático rum, as well as the excellent Taittinger Champagne.

In a familiar and welcoming atmosphere, those present during dinner were able to exchange ideas and experiences as good lovers of premium tobacco. The menu selected for the occasion was accompanied by Quinta dos Carvalhais Rosé 2022, Casa Ferreirinha Vinha Grande Branco 2021, Casa Ferreirinha Callabriga 2020 and Sandeman Tawny 20Y wines.

The activity was enlivened by a group of Cuban musicians, who managed to create an authentic Cuban atmosphere, in the company of one of its best ambassadors, the Habano.

The emotional final toast made by all those present was accompanied by Taittinger champagne and a cake in homage to said anniversary. In the toast, the great work of the Casa Havaneza team was highlighted, which with their effort, dedication and passion, make the Casa a space of excellence appreciated by fans of premium tobacco in Portugal.
